other areas wishing to help the site and accumulate
hours towards their service awards. View recent

This year we have already made many
significant improvements to the Manly Building kitchen
to improve it's specification and usability and have a
very comprehensive list of tasks to undertake for the
coming months.
In 2008 we continued to improve the
ground quality of Site 10 be reseeding and stone picking
with the assistance of some local Explorer Scouts.
The roof to the transit shelter was replaced to provide
a new rain proof area and several trees that were not in
good health were felled.
In 2007
while keeping the site in good camping condition we have
created a conservation area adjacent to the fire break
which we hope to make accessible in the future as
coppiced trees take hold. Throughout the year we
made many improvements to the camp sites and replaced
aging alter fires. At the end of the season we
closed off site 10 to help the ground improve.
2006 was
a good year for the Service Crew allowing many
opportunities to focus on small projects enhancing the
camp site. A lot of time has been spent clearing dead
and overhanging trees allowing more sun to reach the
grass which helps aide growth and many of the tracks
around the site have been re-laid. The main track has
been widened by site one allowing drivers with large
vehicles more space to manoeuvre around the corner.
Fetcham Explorers were a great help in November when
they joined the Service Crew. We are pleased to welcome
several new faces to the Service Crew in the year
helping to maintain enthusiasm and keep spirits high..
In 2005
we were busy completing the development of the new
female toilet facilities and continuing maintenance to
the remainder of the site. Recent completed tasks
have included the fitting of the outside sinks for
campsite users, installation of new posts for the main
gate and resurfacing works to the car parks and treks.
Nonsuch Explorers have helped lay concrete for new paths
around the toilet block whilst the 7th Epsom Uganda
Project has assisted by painting gates and clearing
felled trees. Lots of other routine tasks and one
off elements of maintenance continue to take place on a
regular basis.
