Through The Rotary Club of Bookham & Horsley one of our members was approached by his niece, who is a Leader of a group of Swiss School based Chilean Scouts, to see if he could suggest some low cost alternatives to staying in central London. This was to allow the Chillian Scots to do some sightseeing prior to going on to Hylands Park for the World Jamboree.
Having dismissed the idea that a team of 12 camping in his back garden was slightly ambitious, he turned to David King and I for ideas knowing our Scouting involvement. With thanks to the District Team suggesting Boidier Hurst and John Bourne from 1st Fetcham providing a mini bus, the group enjoyed Windsor and Thorpe Park and travelling to London for several days by train allowing them to get a flavour of the UK before the big event, not least appreciating the beautiful Surrey countryside.
It was really enjoyable experience for all those involved and set the scene nicely for what was to follow at the worldwide event.
