The Boidier
Hurst Service Team have been making great progress on the site
over the summer months and the site looks great.
As the school holidays drew to a close, more than twenty of the
Service Crew met over the Bank Holiday Weekend to enjoy a fun
filled weekend and carry out a number of tasks on site.
In preparation for receiving a new sea container, foundations
were dug and filled with concrete and another two alter fire
were placed around the site. An aerial for Royden House has been
placed 40ftup a tree allowing for a Freeview set top box to beam
digital television to the wardens. A DVD player is also to be
installed shortly hopefully helping to make those dreary nights
more welcoming. New facia boards and guttering were placed
around the Manley building and a number of trees were felled to
make way for a new fenced off area where we can begin to coppice
chestnut.
Children of those lending a hand helped build bat roosting boxes
which were installed selectively by the main car park and the
carpet tiles in Royden House have now been fixed to the ground.
As you move down the main trek, you will notice that much of the
over hanging trees have been cleared back, the trek has been
made more accessible for large vehicles as they turn past site
one and each site now has new posts designating the entrances,
further helping to keep vehicles off the sites.
New signs have also been positioned around the site helping to
clearly mark out the sites and convey messages to users. 1st
Ashtead Scouts also helped out by clearing conifer from the
hedges which had been trimmed and clearing some rather large
trees that were felled.
As a mark of appreciation for all the work carried out on the
site throughout the year, the Management Committee chose to
support the Service Crew by laying on a BBQ on one evening and a
gourmet Sunday roast.
The Service Crew typically meet on site once a month to help
keep the site in good running order and their age ranges vary
widely. As a member of the Service Crew it’s possible to learn
new skills and make new friends whilst having a good time and
helping others get the most out of life. If you would be
interested in joining the Service Crew or feel you would like to
lend a hand one day, please get in touch via email to
servicecrew@boidierhurst.org.uk or by telephoning 01372 725
410. Likewise if you have a group of young people who would like
to help the site and work towards the service element of their
awards we can find accommodating tasks which benefit both
parties.
